Welcome to the website of Witton Castle Lakes, one of, if not the, premier trout fisheries of the North East of England. Situated in the grounds of Witton Castle, in the heartland of the picturesque Wear valley, the fishery is just off the A68, South of the River Wear and the village of Witton le Wear.
Open throughout the year, we provide excellent fly-fishing for top-quaility trout in over 20 acres of water. being set in open parkland means that angles have access to more than 2 miles of bank space without any major obstacles to casting.
We welcome anglers of all standards. The Fisheries Officers - Colin Douglas and Tom Osborne - are on hand to give guidance and advice. Casting and fishing tuition by a fully qualified and insured coach is availible by arrangement. We aim to provide first-class fishing in a beautiful, peaceful setting.
Operated by Bishop Auckland & District Angling Club.
"There are few better - and I really mean this - run fisheries than Witton Castle Lakes. It is a Blue Ribband' Fishery, where trout rise almost constantly"
Charles Jardine
"I was taken right down to the backing several times and on one occasion a fish made a single run of over 50 yards"
Simon Robinson
